I love how we're getting used to doing presentations that it comes naturally for us! Everyone did a great job! The powerpoints were "on point" and the information was really useful. It's great that we did all of our presentations on things we learned...and we learned a lot so far! Great job to everyone and keep up the good work! I hope everyone had a great

Hooray! Hooray!
I'm feeling so much better today!

For a while,
I was without a smile.

The blog invitation I requested,
To some extent was rejected

Now that it has been found,
I think I'll be coming around

I'm finally feeling normal again,
I think it is here I will board the train.

Trick or Treat

I feel like I've been tricked. After working on today's presentation, lo and behold, I forgot the powerpoint electronic file in my office. Lesson learned. I should have saved it to Livetext.

Here's the technology input on my incident. Using my cell phone, I called my office and asked staff to email me the file. I then checked my email on the webmail and got ready to retrieve it. The process was successful. However, they sent me the wrong file. The only thing to do is de-stress. The solution will have to be non-tech.

It is interesting that each student's presentation is taking a different angle on the topic. Crystal focused on the writing. Gerri did vocab. Dawn's presentation really shows her multi-media skills once again.

It seems that all agreed on the difficulty of the textbook. Re-reading seems to be everyone's strategy.

My own strategy is to highlight parts that are important. Then when I re-read, if the section is particularly difficult, I rewrite on a pad or on computer what I am reading. I found that my students do this same thing. I thought I'd share that tidbit with you.

Today's Dish

We had a great day of presentations. The word of our course is schema. We can't seem to get away from that word. It's what we've learned since the beginning of this course. The presentations today were full of useful information. I really enjoyed how they each spoke from personal experience as examples for their article discussions. There is much to learn. I admit, these presentations get me motivated to learn about the topics than just reading them from the book. I'd need that superpen just to get through a paragraph. I just want to say good job to Debi, Eddie, and Barbara for their wonderful presentations. Oh, and that superpen was really cool!!!!!

40th Anniversary of Literacy

November 3rd is the 40th Anniversary of Adult Literacy. As we learned from class, we are the disciples of literacy. So, in the biblical sense, go forth and spread the word.

Thanks for modifying the journal requirement. I tried journaling in microsoft outlook to try to keep up with the daily entries. However, synthesizing the entries was becoming a real task. I think the blog is a good instrument for dialoguing. Much like the blackboard and the listserv. We could invite other on-line communities to join or make comments too.
